銘板が剥がれた古い安定器が見つかり、PCBが含まれているか調べて欲しいというご依頼をいただきました。
PCBが使用されている、もしくは不明な安定器は解体・分解を行ってはならず、銘板が読み取れない場合はPCB使用として処理するしかありません。
PCBが使用されている場合は、安定器内にコンデンサが入っており、そのコンデンサ内の絶縁油に使用されています。よって、そのコンデンサが無ければPCB不含有という判断ができます。逆にコンデンサが内部に有ればPCB使用という判断にならざるを得ません。
今回、当該安定器をX線CT装置で内部の透過撮影を行いました。
An old ballast with a peeled-off nameplate was found, and we received a request to investigate whether it contains PCBs.
Ballasts that contain PCBs or whose status is uncertain must not be dismantled or disassembled. If the nameplate cannot be read, the ballast must be treated as containing PCBs.
If PCBs are present, they are used in the insulating oil within the capacitor inside the ballast. Therefore, if there is no capacitor, it can be determined that the ballast does not contain PCBs. Conversely, if a capacitor is present inside, it must be considered as containing PCBs.
This time, we performed internal imaging of the ballast using an X-ray CT scanner.

写真の右側にコンデンサがあることが確認できました。
よって当該安定器ははPCB含有物として処理することになります。
It was confirmed that there is a capacitor on the left side of the photo.
Therefore, this ballast will be treated as PCB-containing material.
